WELCOME

To our family sanctuary of rest, healing, and connection with nature in the Heart of the World.

Our essence

Afra Natural Reserve is more than a destination — it is a sanctuary of connection and renewal, nestled in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, recognized by Indigenous peoples as the Heart of the World.

Since December 2023, we have opened our doors as a Civil Society Nature Reserve, committed to conservation, holistic well-being, and creating a safe space for families.

Here, time slows down, inviting you to breathe deeply, rest fully, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Our history

Afra was born from a family dream — a seed planted in the mountains that grew with us, season after season.

We arrived in the Sierra Nevada with the longing to create a place where nature could embrace people as she once embraced us: with warmth, wisdom, and silence that heals.

What started as a vision for our family slowly became a sanctuary for many others.

Guided by the ancestral energy of the Black Line (Línea Negra), we built Afra with love, stone by stone, tree by tree, always listening to the land.

Today, our children play where rivers sing, our guests rest where the forest whispers, and every family that visits becomes part of this living story.

Afra is not just our home.

It is a home for all who seek peace, renewal, and connection in the Heart of the World.

Location

Afra Natural Reserve is nestled in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, just 50 minutes from the city of Santa Marta and it's airport (Aeroporto Internacional Simón Bolivar). Though close to the city, the journey feels like entering another world — one of forests, rivers, and sacred landscapes.

How to get here?

No matter where your journey begins, arriving at Afra Reserva Natural is an invitation to leave the noise behind and step into the magic of the Sierra Nevada.

Whether you're traveling from across Colombia or from the other side of the world, getting here is easier than you imagine — and the experience begins the moment you set out.

Are you ready to discover it?

By Car or Motorcycle

You can reach us with your own vehicle.

The road includes a paved rural track and some unpaved sections.

The drive from Bonda takes about 10 minutes, accessible even for small cars (including taxis).

During the rainy season, the road can be more challenging, so we recommend driving carefully.

Important: To make the process even easier and avoid confusion, we recommend using Google Maps.

By Public Transport

From any point in Santa Marta (airport, bus terminal, beaches, or historic center), you can take a bus with a sign that says BONDA.

Ask to get off at the Police Station in Bonda. The cost is approx. $2,500 COP per person.

From there, you have three options:

1. Walk – About 30 minutes uphill (signal may be weak, but Google Maps works).

2. Mototaxi – From the police station, local drivers offer this service. For safety, we recommend contacting us and we’ll share our trusted driver’s number. The cost is approx. $7,000 COP per person.

3. Afra Transport – We can pick you up directly at the Bonda police station. Cost: $30,000 COP for 1–4 people.

AFRA Shuttle

We want your arrival to be just as meaningful as your stay.

That's why we offer private transportation to pick you up directly from the airport or Santa Marta's Bus Terminal ideal if you're traveling with friends or family.

Contact us in advance to book this service.
